indieATL- The Fiery Furnaces “Charmaine Champagne” (live)

leave a comment

The Fiery Furnaces from Brooklyn, NY play live in the studios of the Digital Arts Entertainment Lab for the indieATL music series, produced by Matt Rowles. The Fiery Furnaces revolve around the brother and sister duo of Matthew (Guitar/Vocals) and Eleanor Friedberger (Vocals). They are joined by Jason Lowenstein (Bass) and Bob D’amico (drums) on this performance. “Simple, poppy melodies with a dizzying array of wordplay, sounds, and influences, including the Who, Captain Beefheart, Os Mutantes; dashes of folk, blues, and garage rock; and Eleanor’s adventures in Europe. In 2000, they moved to Brooklyn, took day jobs, and began playing as the Fiery Furnaces late in the year.” -allmusic For more information on the band, please visit http://www.thefieryfurnaces.com This track is from the album “I’m Going Away”, available on Thrill Jockey Records. http://www.thrilljockey.com

Record Review: Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons – Death Won’t Send a Letter

leave a comment

Cory Chisel is nothing if not well connected.  That’s how his first full-length, Death Won’t Send A Letter, got into our hands.  About half that record is produced by Brendan Benson, a noted solo artist in his own right, but assuredly best known as a member of The Raconteurs.  Benson, once removed, is the connection [...]

Swing Set (Alex Brenner), Jan. 1 at Eddie’s Attic

By Rube Ambler If you enjoy reading his thoughts on music here, then you might enjoy listening to his thoughts as music when our own Alex Brenner performs this Friday night as Swing Set. Yes, the plug is gratutious, but we really only met Alex because we loved his music and started talking to him after a [...]

Athens’ Dead Confederate have released their new EP, Dirty Ammo, in a variation on the pay what you like format. The EP consists of seven songs recorded live at the EARL in May 2009 – one of our favorite shows of the year. It includes two covers: “Smoking a Mirror” by Officer May and “Roman [...]

New Year’s Eve – Atlanta’s Live Music Choices UPDATE

leave a comment

Let’s be upfront here.  New Year’s Eve is not really our thing.  But we know it’s a big night out for a lot of folks and a boon to teenage babysitters everywhere.   We’ll be taking in our celebration a night early with Band of Horses, which is an NYE option only if you’re willing [...]
